Strategy Deployment Consultants

Our Strategy Deployment Consultants can help you create and deliver a realistic and achievable long-term strategy.

The Why...

If somebody were to spend a couple of hours asking a sample of members of your organisation to describe the strategic intent, to list the top 5 strategic objectives, and to quantify how they’re performing against them, how consistent would the responses be?

Not very? Then read on…

It’s fair to say that many organisations do not have a clear strategic intent that is well communicated and understood by all team members and consistently embedded into day-to-day activities. One recent study reports that 96% of leaders said they lack the time for strategic thinking, presumably because they find it necessary to devote a lot of time on working in the business as opposed to on it.

Without a coherently communicated strategic intent, a slow corporate death is the only realistic forecast. You will suffer from:

  • Unclear and conflicting objectives and goals being cascaded through the teams
  • Inappropriate and wasteful allocation of resources against conflicting priorities
  • Misaligned structures and responsibilities
  • Ineffective performance management and governance

A common trait that we do see is that senior leaders, periodically and often in isolation from stakeholders junior to them, create action plans to be delivered by teams with the aim of driving the business forward.

Unfortunately all too often these plans fail to deliver the strategic intent and the business carries on despite these plans, not because of them.

Any plan is likely to fail if the people responsible for executing it don’t feel like they own it or don’t understand the rationale behind it. An action plan with the word ‘strategy’ in it is no different.

We consider the primary role of the leadership team is to define the strategic intent. From there, successful deployment and realisation of strategic objectives relies on:

  • Being supported by organically-selected bottom-up initiatives created with input from stakeholders at all levels
  • Being executed in an environment that supports behaviours to identify and address deviations from the strategic objectives

Born out of years of experience from doing this, our Strategy Realisation approach will take you through this and with an investment of around 20 hours from your Senior Leadership Team and a budget of around £25k you will have a coherent and communicated strategy that will be delivered.

How our Strategy Deployment approach helps you...

Over the course of a few weeks we’ll work with you by following a 4-stage approach that will result in a well-defined strategic intent being delivered through properly aligned tactics governed by a team who understands what they’re doing, and why they’re doing it.

The approach is outlined below:

1. Confirm the 'Here'

Ensure the SLT is able to perform together to deliver the strategy through good times and bad – delivered via a workshop to bring together key attributes of a high-performing team.

Collate current strategic statements and objectives and measure the depth of understanding and alignment among the workforce.

Assess current operational excellence maturity and identify, through benchmarking, improvement priorities.

2. Clarify the 'There'

Work with the SLT to refine and clarify the goal statements, long and mid-term objectives, and corporate priority initiatives using x-matrix or VMOST structure and address any gaps or misalignments identified.

3. Prepare departments to manage performance

Provide department members with the knowledge and skills to function as a high-performance team and the structure to monitor and manage performance on a daily basis.

4. Manage performance

Support teams through the launch of Daily Performance Management routines.

Facilitate launch of monthly SLT governance reviews.
